If anyone is a Gardener, I would like to see some different approaches to designing flower beds, vegetable gardens or a mish mash of the two. I am going to start beefing up my herb garden, and will post some pics.

My 5 year old son and I are going to start a vegetable garden very soon.  I've found that the more involved he is with preparing food, the more likely he is to eat it.  He loves asparagus and eggplant.  He like all veggies now and we're exploring new veggies together, like butternut squash and rutabaga.

I want him to see where food comes from, and a garden is a great way to get him to see it.  He and I will put the effort in together to cultivate it, pick when ready, cook and eat.  I know he'll really enjoy that he grew it and prepared it himself.  Plus, it's another way for us to bond.

I found some scrap wood from an old barn/shed that I'm going to use for the bed.  It's free and adds a rustic look to it.

Good, idea, then your son will be super healthy 8?) I like the idea of the scavanged wood, the rustic look is all the rage in Europe. We have problems with the creatures called Woodchucks up here in the North. Very destructive... I started growing things that they don't like, like Garlic, Onions, tomatoes... and hot peppers.

Love that you're protecting your food....with food!

Sure beats setting have-a-heart traps all of the time 8)
