Research and creative development...?

Hey all

The site looks great and it is a brilliant idea, I am hoping to see some interesting discussions.

My cup of tea - not design per se on this occasion (although I do a little bit) but your views on how you feel about running design and any creative work generally (advertising particularly) through research (be that the traditional focus groups or online etc etc)?

Is there a point of asking what people think? Does it help you as an artist? How?
