Consider installing a living or green roof. Plants on your roof can reduce your heating and cooling bills and protect your house's waterproofing. That's /in addition/ to all the other good things, like cleaning air, filtering water and providing a feast for your senses.

Comment by Ben Durrell on May 9, 2012 at 12:50pm This most likely wouldn't have all the benefits of a green roof, but you could build set of planter boxes connected by chain or cable in the fashion of a fire ladder. It could be a "hang out your window" vertical garden.
