Young German designer Elisa Strozyk's latest works use wood as fabric; she crafts custom furniture with wooden textiles. I first noticed her work in Dwell, when they featured her wooden blankets.
"'Wooden Textiles' convey a new tactile experience," she says on her website. "We are used to experience wood as a hard material; we know the feeling of walking across wooden floors, to touch a wooden tabletop or to feel the bark of a tree. But we usually don't experience a wooden surface which can be manipulated by touch."
"'Wooden Textiles' is a material that is half wood-half textile, between hard and soft, challenging what can be expected from a material or category. It looks and smells familiar but feels strange, as it is able to move and form in unexpected ways."

But that was just the beginning — Lost at E Minor just uncovered her latest project: wooden day beds.
Based on a found vintage piece from the 1950s, Strozyk designed these day beds for a group exhibition called "The Thread That Binds Us," a showcase of designers working with textiles in new and experimental ways at Plusdesign Gallery during Milan Design Week 2012.
Then, when we checked out her website, we found another iteration of her Wooden Textiles project: wooden pendant lamps. Love the look of the light creeping through the tiny wooden triangles, highlighting the immense complexity of the design — so lovely and unique.

I'm in love with the idea and look of wooden textiles. But how on earth could they possibly be comfortable? But then again, who cares about practicality — they're stunning, so perhaps it's best to consider wooden blankets, day beds, and pendant lamps works of art rather than pieces of furniture. Can't wait to see what Strozyk does next.
