Art student Yasutoki Kariya looked to Newton's Cradle — you know, that famous desk toy that demonstrates the laws of motion — for inspiration for his senior thesis exhibition installation.

"Asobi," which means "play" in Japanese, uses 11 computer-programmed light bulbs to visualize the transfer of kinetic energy into light. Beautiful.
Kariya's "Asobi" is up for a 2012 Mitsubishi Junior Designer Award.
