Edison's Cradle? Newton's Cradle Reimagined With Light Bulbs in Hypnotic "Asobi" Installation

Art student Yasutoki Kariya looked to Newton's Cradle — you know, that famous desk toy that demonstrates the laws of motion — for inspiration for his senior thesis exhibition installation.

Awesome gif thanks to Redditor Teeohdeedee123.

"Asobi," which means "play" in Japanese, uses 11 computer-programmed light bulbs to visualize the transfer of kinetic energy into light. Beautiful.

Kariya's "Asobi" is up for a 2012 Mitsubishi Junior Designer Award.
